Quick Start Guide

Get up and running with Aether in 5 minutes.

Step 1: Request Access

Aether is currently in Closed Beta. To get started:

  1. Visit https://aether.com (link will be active when site is deployed)
  2. Click “Request Access”
  3. Fill out the request form with your information
  4. Wait for approval (typically 1-2 business days)
Closed Beta: Access is by invitation only during the beta period. We’re onboarding users gradually to ensure a great experience.

Step 2: Set Up Your Account

Once approved:

  1. Check your email for an invitation link
  2. Click the link to create your account
  3. Choose a password or use passwordless login
  4. Verify your email address

Step 3: Create Your First Workspace

A Workspace represents your business or brand:

  1. Click “Create Workspace”
  2. Enter your Workspace Name (e.g., “My Cosmetics Brand”)
  3. Select your Plan (start with Free to try things out)
  4. Click “Create”

Step 4: Add Team Members (Optional)

If you’re working with others:

  1. Go to Workspace Settings
  2. Click “Seats” or “Team”
  3. Click “Invite Member”
  4. Enter their email address
  5. Select their Role (Owner, Admin, or Member)
  6. Click “Send Invite”

Step 5: Create Your First Ingredient

Start building your product catalog:

  1. Navigate to Product Development → Ingredients
  2. Click “Add Ingredient”
  3. Enter the Name (e.g., “Lavender Essential Oil”)
  4. Enter the INCI Name (if known)
  5. Set the Type (Fragrance Oil, Essential Oil, Base, etc.)
  6. Enter Cost information (optional but recommended)
  7. Add any Supplier information
  8. Click “Save”
Pro Tip: Use the INCI Import feature to automatically populate ingredient data. This ensures you have complete regulatory information.

Step 6: Create a Vessel

Define your packaging:

  1. Navigate to Product Development → Vessels
  2. Click “Add Vessel”
  3. Enter the Name (e.g., “100ml Amber Glass Spray Bottle”)
  4. Set the Volume/Weight (100 ml)
  5. Select the Purpose (Spray)
  6. Set the Material (Glass)
  7. Enter Cost information
  8. Add a Photo for visual reference
  9. Click “Save”

Step 7: Create a Mixture

Build reusable compositions:

  1. Navigate to Product Development → Mixtures
  2. Click “Add Mixture”
  3. Enter the Name (e.g., “Lavender Fragrance Blend”)
  4. Select the Type (Fragrance)
  5. Click “Add Component”
  6. Select an Ingredient (Lavender Essential Oil)
  7. Set the Percentage (e.g., 50%)
  8. Add more components as needed
  9. Verify percentages sum to 100%
  10. Click “Save”

Step 8: Create a Product

Build your first sellable product:

  1. Navigate to Product Development → Products
  2. Click “Add Product”
  3. Enter the Name (e.g., “Lavender Body Spray”)
  4. Select a Vessel (100ml Amber Glass Spray Bottle)
  5. Click “Add Component”
  6. Select a Mixture or Ingredient
  7. Set the Percentage or Amount
  8. Repeat for all components
  9. Verify the formulation sums to 100%
  10. Click “Save”

Step 9: Check COGS

View the automatic cost calculation:

  1. Open your Product
  2. Scroll to the COGS Section
  3. Review the Cost Breakdown
  4. Verify all ingredients have cost data
  5. If any costs are missing, update the ingredient information
Warning: Products with missing cost data will show as “Incomplete Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)”. You can still save them, but Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) reports will show gaps.

Step 10: Generate Compliance Docs

Create your first SDS or Allergen Sheet:

  1. Open your Product
  2. Click “Generate SDS” or “Generate Allergen Sheet”
  3. Select your Target Market (EU, US, etc.)
  4. Review the generated document
  5. Export as PDF or share digitally

Common Issues

Issue Solution
Can’t find INCI ingredient Try a different search term or check INCI databases directly
Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) shows as incomplete Add cost data to all ingredients and vessels
Percentage validation error Ensure all components sum to exactly 100%
Can’t sync to Shopify Verify your Shopify connection in Workspace Settings
Rate limited Wait and retry, or check your plan limits
